Jimmy Cliff told the Jamaican Gleaner upon learning of  his nomination to the 2010 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He expressed gratitude for the inclusion amongst other nominees and said the nomination was a nod whether or not he gets selected.

Reggae Legend Jimmy Cliff, one of twelve class of 2010 nominees for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was announced on Wednesday. Only five of the twelve nominees will be chosen for induction.

The announcement will be made in January, with the ceremony taking place on March 15 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City.

Artists become eligible 25 years after their first single was released. Inductees are selected after a vote by over 500 musicians and music professionals.

The late Bob Marley was Inducted in 1994.

shoes brought Perry Henzell’s The Harder They Come musical to life at the Adrienne Arsht Centre in Miami on Friday, August 28.

Making its debut on a United States stage 37 years after Henzell and the movie transformed the signature Jamaican sound of reggae into an international phenomenon, it wasn’t Ivanhoe’s costume and props that made the large audience reward the cast of 16 actors with a standing ovation. It was the top-class acting, sensational vocals and incredible dancing that had them salivating at the end of the 90-minute performance. Read more…

The Harder They ComeReggae legend Jimmy Cliff was in a Kingston recording studio when Perry Henzell, a Jamaican director whose company made commercials, came into the session to meet him.

“He said, `I’m making a movie. Do you think you can write the music for it?’ ” Cliff recalls from New York. “I said, `Can I do it? I can do anything!’ ”

Cliff, as it turns out, wasn’t being cocky or over confident. He didn’t just write several now-classic songs for Henzell’s 1972 movie, The Harder They Come: He also became its star. Read more…
