Nothing could spoil the irie vibes at Jamboree

Yasmine Peru

Irie Jamboree 2009 will surely go down in history as the show that Sean Paul took. The platinum-selling artiste took it to a new level of boring and started the trickle out of the York College venue in Queens, New York on Sunday. It is amazing how an artiste who goes on stage with all the right ingredients for success – big hit tunes, wicked backing band, healthy body dancers and two hype men – could have fared so badly. Hit song after hit song, there was still zero connect between Sean and the audience during his close to 30 minutes on stage. Read more…

Etana spreads her wings

EtanaThe year 2008 was the ‘Year of Etana’ as the reggae songstress made her mark with a string of hit songs and, not surprisingly, scooped up more than an armful of awards at various reggae awards shows inside and outside of Jamaica.

One Minute Spotlight: Tarrus Riley

Reggae Mix Online

ContagiousOn August 04, 2009 Tarrus Riley’s new album, Contagious, hit the stores with much anticipation.

Although, this is his third album, Tarrus Riley is by no means a newcomer to the business. The 30-year-old recorded his debut single at age 15 and, as you may already know, is the son of reggae icon Jimmy Riley, better known for his perennial classic hit tune “Love and devotion,” produced by the Riddim Twins, Sly and Robbie, in 1982.

Tarrus Riley’s sophomore album Parables, released in 2006, spawned several hits, most notably the hit single “She’s Royal,” which catapulted his career into the big leagues.

Contagious features collaborations from notable artists such as, Etana, Vybz Kartel, Konshens and others.

The album was produced by Jamaican musical legend and saxophone virtuoso, Dean Fraser, on the Canon Production label and distributed by VP Records.

Rowan Irie: My favorite selection from the CD is track 16-Good Girl Gone Bad.
